The Ministry of Culture and Media will create a monument site for sexual and gender diversity at the Neuer Jungfernstieg/Lombardsbrücke (budget up to 300,000 euros). The Denk-Ort (monument - contemplative space) is intended to create a place for the appreciation of ‘diversity‘ and the remembrance of their exclusion and discrimination. It is intended to commemorate the facts of stigmatization and persecution and also the suffering of non-heterosexual people and people outside the gender dichotomy. At the same time, the monument site is intended to create a prominent space for all members of the LGBTIQ* community and encourage encounter, respect and acceptance.

Up to 15 artists will be selected in the preliminary application process and invited to the art competition. Applications can be submitted from 5 January to 13 February 2024 on the competition platform wa-aktuell. The awarding authority encourages the formation of interdisciplinary working groups under the leadership of artists (e.g. with architects, landscape architects, historians, philosophers, etc.).
